ximenia fruit
Ximenia oil is extracted from the seed kernels of the African ximenia tree. All parts of the tree – the fruit pulp, seed oil and bark – have specific properties that are used domestically. The ximenia fruits are nutritionally rich in Vitamin C and ximenia bark is used to treat toothache, mouth infections and stomach aches.
While ximenia oil is edible and used in cooking, its main use is as an emollient. Women in southern Africa use it as a very effective hair oil, conditioner and skin softener and chapped skin is often soothed by massaging the oil into the affected area. Ximenia oil is high in oleic and ximenynic acid, in addition to having anti-inflammatory properties, improving the functioning of sebaceous tissues and being an effective treatment for dry skin.
