These unique, eco-friendly recycled paper bead necklaces are made by young women from the Teenage Mothers Association of Kenya (TEMAK). The paper beads are made from old magazine pages that are cut into thin triangles, rolled into hollow beads and varnished to a water-resistant finish.

Accented with Maasai beads and seeds, each necklace is approximately 15 inches long (choker length) with a brass screw closure.

TEMAK
The Teenage Mothers and Girls Association of Kenya (TEMAK) provides job training in tailoring, hairdressing, secretarial skills, craft making and computer skills to unmarried mothers, girls and others from the Obunga slums. This organisation provides the community with an educational forum for HIV/AIDS awareness as well as the dangers of female genital mutilation. Many of the young women at TEMAK participate in making crafts, thereby earning an income to support themselves and their families. TEMAK is a registered Fair Trade Organisation and member of IFAT. more info...
