Sliced tagua earring in two-tone red and blue.
Tagua (also known as vegetable ivory) is the dried seedpod of a palm tree that grows wild in tropical rainforests. The dried and polished nuts from the seedpod are sliced, carved and dyed to make stunning, unique jewellery.
Handmade by skilled artisans in Ecuador.
Camari was set up in 1981 to complement the work of FEPP, a development agency that assists small farmers throughout Ecuador, and markets agricultural and handicraft products on behalf of several hundred peasant groups and artisans. Camari works to ensure that they receive a stable, fair income, enabling small farmers to carry on working the land, as well as preserving indigenous culture through the promotion of traditional crafts.
